<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; color: black; font-size: 11pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;" lang="EN-US">Abstract:

<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; color: black; font-size: 11pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;" lang="EN-US">First of all, in this article we describe with some detail a common metaphor used both by academia and media: the metaphor of the impact of new technology upon society an specifically upon youth. Later, we discuss the pertinence of this impact metaphor in light of another possible metaphor: that of youngsters reading of ICT. We end commenting on the role metaphors have in social sciences explanations, showing how they are used in two different ways: as a device of representation and as a device of understanding. In the first case, the researcher finds and describes the metaphors, offering us a partial and situated interpretation of the worlds constructed by the subjects of her research. In the second case, the researcher put forward the metaphors, offering us her vision of the subjects‟ world and thus forcing herself to recognize the limitations and possible effects of her proposal.

<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; color: black; font-size: 11pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;" lang="EN-US">

}, number={3}, journal={Revista Argentina de Estudios de Juventud}, author={Feliu, Joel and Gil-Juárez, Adriana and Vitores, Anna}, year={2012}, month={may} }
