Abstract

The creation of National States at the beginning of the modern age was accompanied by that of the liberal geoculture capable of articulate and contain the contradictions and presures that arise inside them. One of the pilars of that culture was the nationalism, responsible of transforming the socialist reinvindications about autonomy and independence in a powerful element which glued the citizen identity and obedience around the State, given place to a one of the most strong ideologies of the last two hundred years. However, the liberal geoculture had to make some concessions to the nationalism accepting the pass from the liberal individualism to the compromise with the national values. This article pretends to analyse if the power of the nationalism came from the impulse of the people for being free or the simple fact that ism one of the most extraordinaire tools of the domination.
