Abstract

Media’s speeches build up, install, and put into circulation ideas, values, possible interpretations of reality that creates the social imaginary; that is the reason why we understand it is necessary to take them as objects to be studied on themselves and not only as historical sources. This task demands an interdisciplinary work that would allow us to use different theoretical tools that would optimize the analysis. In this case, our work is focused on the study of the speech of the centenary newspaper named “La Prensa”/The Press, historically related to the interests of the agricultural exporter class and defender of the republican values agreed in their nineteenth century’s version, these compromises explain its institutional and business position opposed to all governments belonged to the Justicialist party. The intention of this article is to go through its editorial speech about peronismo during the last military dictatorship in Argentina, in order to elucidate in which way this media assumed its social role that is responsibility of the media in such particular situations.
