Abstract

The study of peasant societies by two contemporary authors, Eric Hobsbawm and James C. Scott, reveals two different theoretical conceptions on subaltern classes and their political practice. The article tries to demonstrate that between the historical writings of the former and the anthropological research of the later a turn had happened concerning politics and social change definitions.
