Abstract

This presentation is a reflection that seeks to problematize the construction of the sports idol in the "neoliberal era" of sport based on an analysis of the series "The Last Dance" that addresses the trajectory of Michael Jordan. The preparation of this presentation takes place within the framework of my teaching role in the Popular Cultures and Sports chair of the Higher University Technique in Sports Journalism of the Faculty of Journalism and Social Communication (FPyCS) of the National University of La Plata (UNLP).

In this sense, the analysis of the article delves into the link between Michael Jordan and the neoliberal era in sports through the construction of his brand. This relationship is inscribed in a context where certain historical events defined the history of sport within a social fabric that configures subjectivities and power relations. Due to the appearance of new communication technologies, this process was on a global scale and meant a novelty in the way of conceiving sport.
