Destituyentes and restorative mechanisms in the production and reproduction of poverty. Children and adolescents in the city of Cordoba, Argentina

Anchored in Alexander´s neofunctionalism this paper uses Foucaultian dispositifs and mechanisms, as well as Charles Tilly’s durable inequalities to describe the functioning of two pairs of social mechanisms in the production and reproduction of poverty among marginalized children and young people in the City of Cordoba, Argentina. “Identity disaffiliation” and “opportunity hoarding” work together to spoil the individual by fading his/her personal anchorages of social references and silencing the citizen in it. On the other hand, “ready-to-wear identities” and “exploitation and emulation” rebuilt a marginalized and alienated subject that is functional to social exploitation. In-depth descriptions of cases gathered in the City of Córdoba (Argentina) confirm that the combination of social mechanisms improves the understanding of complex social phenomena.Downloads
